By examining pieces of public art, we are able to assess the relationship between Mouride iconography, the social impact they now hold in Post Colonial Senegal, and the correlation they share with the Saint Amadou Bamba.

Edouard Manet’s Un Bar aux Folies-Bergere is an intricate painting dealing with Parisian society in the 1880’s. Through the incorporation of still life imagery and visual symbolism surrounding Suzon, the barmaid, Manet was able to depict issues of consumerism, the role of women, and the passage of time.
